SGBS 326 - Black, Brown and Beige: The Spirit of African American Arts4.00 credit hours (Same as: SGBH 326 .) In literature, music, art, photography, film, and architecture, black Americans have made signal contributions to modern arts and culture. This inter-disciplinary class covers a wide range of these texts and works of art, as well as the relevant history and politics informing them. Special attention is given to figures associated with Chicago, such as Gwendolyn Brooks, Richard Wright, Louis Armstrong and Kerry James Marshall.
Prerequisite(s): One course in Art Design, Art History, English, Music, Shimer Humanities, Shimer Social Science or instructor consent. Cardinal Directions Designation(s): Humanities, U.S. Power Structures. iCon(s): Challenging Inequity.
