COMM 367 - Persuasion Theory4.00 credit hours An introduction to the study of persuasive communication from a social scientific perspective. Theories examines the characteristics of source, message and audience. Topics covered include strategic planning and organization of persuasive messages, audience analysis, motives and values, effective use of language, the role of context and purpose, propaganda and the abuse of persuasion, campaign planning and brand messaging. Students present and analyze persuasive materials orally and in writing as a way of developing communication and critical abilities.
Prerequisite(s): CARD 101 ; CARD 102 or COMM 110 ; Junior standing. Cardinal Directions Designation(s): Social Sciences.
