SHMR 325 - Epic Tales

4.00 credit hours
Epic poems - long narrative poems that arise out of a collaborative oral tradition - are central to literary cultures around the world. The Iliad and the Odyssey are the Western exemplars; a modern example would be the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which draw on diverse traditions. We will read and discuss four major Western epics and also consider how epic themes and characters are kept alive in film and pop culture.

Cardinal Directions Designation(s): Humanities, Global Understanding.
