Race and Ethnic Studies

Mission Statement

The Race and Ethnic Studies minor is an interdisciplinary program that enables students to think critically about the enduring role of race and ethnicity in social, political and economic arrangements in the U.S. and beyond. With this minor, students will learn to see race and ethnicity as sites of power, resistance and transformation.

The Race and Ethnic Studies Minor draws on history, literature, political science, sociology, anthropology, art and economics, to create a curriculum with a social justice focus that is needed to make students effective citizens. The minor will distinguish students upon graduation and expand their employment options. It can also provide a strong academic foundation for further studies and professional pursuits that need an understanding of race and ethnicity.
