NURS 528 - Advanced Practice Nursing: Perinatal and Pediatric Primary Care 4.00 credit hours This course provides advanced practice registered nurses with knowledge for primary care with the emphasis on women’s and pediatric healthcare. The focus will include health promotion and disease prevention, routine prenatal care in uncomplicated pregnancies and assessment, management of common health problems in child-bearing women and pediatric patients from infancy to adolescence. Strategies to eliminate health disparities will be explored. Psycho-social adaptation of child-bearing women and their families during the perinatal period, with emphasis on transition to parenthood, parent-infant interactions, and community-based support models are discussed. Stresses clinical interventions to enhance, maintain and restore health in context of family and community environments. Develops skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and effective utilization of community resources.
