***STARTING SPRING 2024***

Interim Program Director: Georgine Maisch DNP, MSN, CHSE, CNE, RN

The North Central College Post-Master’s Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Certificate program provides opportunities for registered nurses, who already have a Master of Nursing degree in another speciality, to advance their education and gain the specialized knowledge, skills and abilities to provide independent care as clinicians.

Post-Master’s APRN Certificate students will join their MSN cohort in specialty track related curricula. Students will learn how to perform medical diagnoses and treatment through evidence-based didactic and clinical instruction. Problem-based learning, simulation and clinical practice hours will allow students to deepen their clinical reasoning and decision-making skills. Family Nurse Practitioner coursework will provide students with instruction on primary care across the lifespan, focusing on both episodic acute and chronic care. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner coursework will prepare students to provide a wide range of mental health services across the lifespan, focusing on the bio-psychosocial model of care.

Upon completion of the Post-Master’s APRN Certificate program, students will be eligible for the Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam.

Program Requirements

The Post-Master APRN Certificate Program requires 35 credit hours for students without an MSN in another Nurse Practitioner specialty. Requirements for APRNs who have completed coursework in advanced pharmacology, advanced physiology/pathophysiology and advanced physical assessment, seeking a Post-Master Certificate in FPN of PMHNP require we credit hours.

Students may choose one track from the Family Nurse Practitioner or the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Tracks:
