NURS 535 - Psychiatric Mental Health NP: Theory and Clinical Management I 6.00 credit hours This course focuses on establishing fundamental skills, emphasizing the cultivation of a connection between providers and patients in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients across the lifespan. The integration of mental health laws specific to the state are incorporated, while teaching the proper utilization of screening and assessment tools and the DSM-5, to determine accurate diagnoses and recognize crises and urgent situations. Students enrolled in this course will be required to complete 175 clock hours of clinical practice, enabling them to apply essential nurse practitioner skills within the realm of psychiatric/mental health care. This course integrates current research and epidemiological trends in psychiatric care to inform clinical decision-making and foster collaboration with interdisciplinary providers, aiming for early screening, assessment and diagnosis of psychopathology across various life stages. Students must meet with their clinical faculty before the start of this course.
Prerequisite(s): NURS 506 , NURS 507 and NURS 534 .
